Our founder’s story started decades ago when he entered the commercial driving industry. Before there was a business plan or thoughts of building a company, Joe Martin already prioritized safety. He quickly discovered that what’s needed to get a commercial drivers license doesn’t even come close to preparing most drivers for the real world.
But Joe was determined to be the resource that professional drivers need.
There are a lot of trucking routes across the country, and Joe Martin has navigated some of the most treacherous. On these roads self awareness isn’t enough to ensure safety. There are certain situations and weather conditions that require specialized understanding and training to drive with confidence.
Joe has that knowledge and expertise. It was hard earned after years of traveling in adverse weather having to figure things out through trial and error. He wanted to give other drivers the resources he didn’t have starting out so they wouldn’t have to do the same.
Instead of being like other companies that only address everyday pain points experienced by commercial drivers, Joe wanted to focus his efforts on preparing them for the worst. He knew that what he had to offer wouldn’t be needed on a daily basis, but when it was needed it could be life-saving.
That focus was the vision that shaped the Excell PDT brand that has helped countless professional drivers across the nation. Joe has created books and online training materials that encapsulate his specialized knowledge in a way that resonates and is actionable.
Joe had great ideas and experience to share, but he knew he couldn’t launch the new enterprise on his own. Once he was past the initial early stages of planning, it was clear he needed other experts to help in creating the training videos and promoting the new business.
It was never Joe Martin’s goal to sell products to customers. Joe’s mission drives much deeper. The Excell PDT organization helps commercial drivers keep themselves and others safer every mile. Every team member that Joe has hired shares that mission. Like Joe, they are dedicated to helping improve safety for as many commercial drivers as possible.
The team has worked together to bring their decades of experience and diverse expert perspectives into a series of training tools that are truly valuable. Each driver training course is carefully constructed so that it’s easy to understand even when the concepts are complex.
Another core part of Joe’s business model is servant leadership. The servant leadership philosophy teaches leaders to approach things with a servant mindset. The leaders are there to support employees, not the other way around.
For Joe, the philosophy goes further. He and everyone on his team are there to serve the drivers who are taking Excell PDT driver training courses. Their number one priority is helping each driver on their personal journey to improve their skills and career.
Joe also leads by example as the CEO of Excell PDT. He works to ensure every team member is fully supported and has what they need to be their best.
